We are very proud of our musical achievements. Music and singing are very much a part of school life. We have achieved the Silver Sing-Up award in recognition of the quantity and high quality of singing in our school. We are working towards the Gold award.
Year 1 and Year 2 children have a music lesson each week designed to improve their listening, composing and performance skills, as well as teach them about the inter-related dimensions of music: pitch, duration, tempo, timbre, structure, dynamics and notation.
Children across the school sing every day. This happens in class, in assemblies, in music lessons and at playtimes. Children have regular opportunities to perform to visitors, parents and each other through regular concerts and assemblies.
Wood End Infants has a Choir which all Year 2 children are invited to join. They are taught the rudiments of breath control and some vocal exercises, this gives the children an opportunity to explore more complex songs. The choir has taken part in several community events including the Carol Concert at Northolt High School and with the English Pocket Opera Company Project, as part of the London Olympic celebrations.
All Year 1 and 2 children are given the opportunity to learn to play the recorder. This is a perfect starting point for playing a musical instrument as they learn to read simple notation and how to play a variety of tunes.
